Technology, love it or leave it, is here to stay. It continues to grow in its complexity while it tries to simplify our lives. Some can’t see why we need it while others can’t even imagine living without it. Regardless of which bank you sit on, there’s no denying that technology affects us in everything we do.
Despite its many problems and malfunctions, I find myself happily tied to technology. I can relay messages to friends and family living abroad, check up on local news without having to pay for a newspaper, and listen to some of the latest music to hit the scene. While at work, my coworkers can message me instantly when they need computer help in order to minimize down time, schedule blocks of time for students to use the lab for classwork, and keep in touch with our jet-setting Headmaster as he tours Asia. Without technology, our communications would definitely suffer.
I think the single greatest aspect of Houghton Academy is its diverse student population that is forced to communicate with us and us with them. And what better a way to do that than to do so through the ministry of the Word of God? Since sin is a universally understood principal, we can instantly find common ground to work off of. With technology so prevalent in the realm of communications and me being the main controller of our technology here at Houghton Academy, I find myself in a wonderful position to minister to the students. It is my goal to make the most of that position by helping our students find something worth striving for in a world that tries to impose upon them a false sense of self morality that only succeeds in confusing, embarrassing, and destroying everything around it.
