Houghton Academy

I graduated from Houghton College (class of 2006) with degrees in Sociology and Intercultural Studies. Before that I was at Faith Academy in Manila and before that, at Rosslyn Academy in Nairobi. Due to my father’s work with World Vision International, I grew up in Mozambique for the majority of my childhood years, and in Kenya and the Philippines for two years each.

I have been thousands of miles away from my family since coming to Houghton for my undergraduate degree. I’m glad and amazed at the experiences that God has given me that he is using in the work that he has brought me here at the Academy to do.

“Knowing is not enough; we must apply. Willing is not enough; we must do.” —Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

This is my first year working at the Academy. I teach one class: ESL Bible and the rest of my job is to co-ordinate activities for the international students as well as attend to their specific needs. It has been a pleasure working in an environment where the people with whom I work with share the same core motivation behind what we do. I am discovering the inexplicable joy of being a part of God’s work in my students’ lives, in leading them into a relationship with Him.
