History (2002)

“The farther backward you can look, the farther forward you are likely to see.” — Winston Churchill

“History is the record of an encounter between character and circumstance.” — Donald Creighton

A study of history not only gives an appreciation of one’s heritage, but, more significantly, provides a vast array of examples for a premise upon which the study of history at Houghton Academy is based—that ideas have consequences. A look at the past helps to explain the present and give perspective on the future. At Houghton Academy, students learn how to study history with a focus on the cause and effect relationships which give meaning to the events in history and the importance of people and their ideas.
