Houghton Academy

Philip Stockin

Headmaster (1971)

Houghton Academy has been a part of my experience all my life and the benefits I have gained from this association are immeasurable. My father was serving as Principal of the Academy when I was born. I attended the Academy as a student, joined the faculty in 1971, and assumed the position of Headmaster in 1983.

The positive influences of teachers and peers during my high school days at the Academy were life-changing. The benefits of these relationships are among those things in life that are often impossible to repay directly to those from whom they came. I feel that my service to students year by year honors those who gave of themselves to me and, in a small way, attempts to repay that debt.

I thank God for the privilege of serving with colleagues who share a commitment to this important ministry of Christian education. We have one of the greatest Kingdom opportunities…that of influencing young people to “think Christianly” and make choices accordingly.

I have seen the benefits of the Houghton Academy experience in my life, the lives of my three daughters, and in the lives of countless students over the years.

My prayer is for Houghton Academy, by God’s grace, to continue preparing the minds and hearts of young people for many years to come…”that they might be trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that He might be glorified.”
