If you had asked me when I graduated from Houghton College if I’d return to Houghton and teach, I would have laughed at you. If you had told me in 1994 that I was going to return to Houghton and teach at Houghton Academy I would have told you that God has better plans for me. Well, I’ve been teaching science at Houghton Academy since 1995. I can tell that this is God’s plan for me!
Teaching middle school science fits my personality. I love waking up and walking into the class to visit, teach, play and talk with my students.
Annually I also take the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders on a three day trip. In the spring of 2012 the trip will be to Pittsburgh, PA. In 2011 the trip took us to Gettysburg, PA and in the spring of 2013 we’ll visit Boston, MA.
I also am the varsity boys’ soccer coach. Houghton Academy was the Allegany County League champions in 2007 and 2008. In 2008 the team had a regular season record of 13-0-1 and eventually suffered its only loss of the season in a semi-final sectional game. As a result of the exceptional season I was selected as the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) private school coach of the year for the Eastern United States.
