Board of Trustees Announcement

Dear Houghton Academy Community,

It is with regret that the Houghton Academy Board of Trustees announces that Mr. John Nelson resigned as the Head of School at the Academy, effective June 30.

John joined the leadership staff at the Academy in 2015 and has been responsible for moving the school forward on several fronts, including establishing successful ACSI re-accreditation through 2025, introducing and committing to curriculum mapping, decentralizing management, and most recently, identifying a clear target of sustainability and flourishing school culture through the Christian School Leadership Framework.

John leaves the Academy in a solid position heading into its 138th school year. We are appreciative and thankful for his contributions and leadership these past five years. He will be in our thoughts and prayers as he pursues new opportunities.

The Board of Trustees will be working with faculty and staff to ensure a smooth transition. Principal Jon Retz will take on an interim leadership role. We will announce further details to the Houghton Academy community as they are solidified.

Sincerely,

Jim Poorman
Chairman, Board of Trustees
