Houghton Academy Appoints New Educators
Houghton Academy is pleased to announce the appointment of two educators to faculty positions for the 2018-19 school year.
Mrs. Elsa Kettinger, an experienced artist in the fields, will guide the Academy's art program. Elsa, along with her husband Kevin and their children, moved to Houghton in 2016. Elsa graduated from Asbury University with a studio art degree and concentrations in painting and sculpture, and has complemented her undergraduate degree by further studies in graphic design at Roberts Wesleyan College. In addition, her extensive portfolio includes capacities in pottery and kiln operations, stained glass, printmaking, drawing, painting, textile work, and sculpting, all in various mediums.
Mr. Jeff Prentice will lead the Academy's physical education programs and serve as athletics coordinator. A 1993 Houghton College graduate, Jeff served for 25 years at Baptist Regional School in Haddon Heights, NJ in various roles as PE/health instructor, athletic director, mentoring leader, class advisor, and dean of men. He has 25 years years of overall coaching experience, including boys’ and girls’ varsity soccer, basketball, and softball, and has been named conference soccer and basketball coach of the year seven times since 2011. In addition to his teaching responsibilities and coordination of Academy athletics, Jeff will coach the boys' varsity soccer and girls' varsity basketball teams. Jeff and his wife Janet, along with their youngest two children, will move to Houghton in early August.
Houghton Academy is grateful for the additions of Mrs. Elsa Kettinger and Mr. Jeff Prentice to its highly qualified and diverse group of teachers for the upcoming school year, which begins August 27.
